10 Sequels To Incredible Movies Nobody Asked For
6. Futureworld
1973's Westworld was the directorial debut of author Michael Chrichton. It followed the story of a futuristic theme park inhabited by lifelike androids which malfunction and attempt to kill all the park guests. The low budget sci-fi ended up being a huge hit receiving rave reviews, with MGM interested in creating a sequel.
Chrichton had no interest in the follow up, leaving MGM to hand it over to the film's original producer Paul Lazarus III. Paul then developed the concept of androids cloning world leaders for the sequel. The major downfall of the project was the lack of returning cast members aside from a short appearance from Yul Brynner.
Futureworld was panned by audiences and critics alike. Most of the criticism was for it being a dull adventure that lacked the creativity which made the original piece so successful. The concept of when a robot becomes sentient and living through developing its own will is completely absent from Futureworld.
Even Paul Lazarus III, who had been the driving force behind it said that the dud wasn't a great picture and was unfortunately doomed to fail from the start.
