10 Sequels To Incredible Movies Nobody Asked For
7. Son Of Kong
The oldest film on this list is perhaps one of the earliest instances of a picture that was made purely to cash in on the success of its predecessor. 1933's The Son Of Kong was released just nine months after the massively successful King Kong.
Directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Shoedsack, 1933's King Kong was a cultural phenomenon upon release. The incredible acting and special effects still hold up to this day. Naturally RKO pictures wanted to continue the hype of King Kong, and rushed a sequel into production.
The plot of the feature is based around the filmmaker from the first movie going back to Skull Island to find the titular son of Kong. This is the 12 foot tall Kong Junior, who ends up sacrificing himself to save the humans on Skull Island.
Upon release Son Of Kong was a huge hit as audiences were desperate to relive the horror and action of the first. Most people however saw the movie for exactly what it was, with it receiving poor reviews for being a poorly executed rehashing of King Kong.
