10 Sequels We Don't Really Need But Would Love To See Anyway

2. The Incredibles 2

Incredibles Of all of Pixar Animation's feature films, there arguably isn't a movie more deserving of a sequel than their massively successful superhero comedy, The Incredibles. The movie was released in 2004, grossed a staggering $631 million, received high critical acclaim (currently standing at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes), and won two Academy Awards, for both Sound Editing and Best Animated Feature. However, there has been little to no development in making a follow-up film happen, despite Pixar's recent trend of making sequels to some of their other properties. The internet has been quick to criticise the studio for making sequels to Cars, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo, rather than giving The Incredibles another shot on the silver screen. Disney almost made one without Pixar, but those plans were immediately scrapped and now the potential for a sequel falls squarely on director Brad Bird's shoulders. He's become quite a hot commodity in Hollywood after making several critically-acclaimed, financially-successful movies, but hasn't given up hope that he might make it happen someday. He spoke with the Hollywood Reporter in May, and offered his thoughts on the idea of a sequel:
"I have been thinking about it. People think that I have not been, but I have. Because I love those characters and love that world," said Bird. "I am stroking my chin and scratching my head. I have many, many elements that I think would work really well in another Incredibles film, and if I can get 'em to click all together, I would probably wanna do that."
As fans of these properties, we should consider ourselves lucky that future installments hinge solely on the creator's intent to make them. We've seen so many sequels made without the original director's blessing, and that hardly ever lends itself to success. At least we know that if a sequel ever does happen (which I really, truly hope it does), Brad Bird will be doing it because he wants to do it.
