10 On-Set Injuries You Won’t Believe Actors Worked Through

8. Jackie Chan - Broken Spine - Police Story

Realistically, Jackie Chan could have made up the entirety of this list. It seems like he's gotten seriously injured in pretty much every single film that he's appeared in. But the worst incident was probably when Chan made the film Police Story. He was supposed to slide down a long pole covered in Christmas lights. When he performed the stunt, he not only suffered severe burns from the heat of the lights that were coming in contact with his hands, but he also cracked two vertebrae (we're not doctors, but we understand that those are pretty important), and dislocated his pelvis. His injuries were serious enough to call into question his ability to continue working, and for a while it looked like Jackie Chan might be forced to retire. Of course, Jackie Chan being Jackie Chan, he recuperated faster than most people would have thought possible, and was back to his death-defying stunts in no time at all. What the rest of us call career-ending injury, Jackie Chan calls Thursday.
