10 On-Set Injuries You Won’t Believe Actors Worked Through

6. Harold Lloyd - Lost Two Fingers - Haunted Spooks

This one's a little bit of a throwback to the old days of Hollywood, when a lot of actors (especially comedians, surprisingly enough) did most of their own stunts. They obviously didn't have particularly sophisticated special effects, so a large number of the action you see in films from this era was the real deal. Buster Keaton was well known for putting himself in dangerous situations to get the perfect shot, but we don't think anyone will ever come close to Harold Lloyd in terms of utter recklessness. While taking a break on the set of Haunted Spooks, Lloyd was posing for a promotional photo with a prop bomb (mistakenly thought to be a smoke pot), holding it up to his face and lighting a cigarette with it. What happened next was something straight out of the movies -- the bomb exploded, badly burning his face, damaging his eye, and blowing off his thumb and forefinger. He wore a glove with prosthetic fingers for the rest of his films, but the incident didn't put an end to his onscreen antics.
