10 Shocking Batman Plans You Won’t Believe Almost Happened

2. Batman Nearly Used Guns Again

Like a lot of superheroes, Batman's earliest incarnations had some key differences from the iconic version we all know. One of the biggest is that Batman wasn't afraid to kill in his first appearances and even carried a gun.

This was changed when Batman became a more kid-friendly character and his origin was altered to include an aversion to guns after his parents were shot.

Since then, Batman's refusal to kill or use guns has become a core part of his character. It was almost undone though during the 60's.

In 1964, artist Carmine Infantino was brought over to Batman to help redesign the character. This period was known as the "New Look" and involved the addition of a yellow oval on Batman's chest symbol and a move away from weird sci-fi stories (like Batman getting turned into a toddler) back towards the detective tone of the earlier comics.

Another change that Infantino wanted to make was to have Batman go back to using guns. DC refused the idea though since it wouldn't fit well with The Dark Knight's more modern characterisation and the only justification that Infantino had for the change was that he thought it would look cool.

I was just a mild-mannered NCTJ accredited journalist until one day I found out the truth... that I could share my nerdy ramblings with people on the internet! It's just like mumbling to myself on the train, but without all the strange looks.
