10 Shocking Horror Movies Where THIS Happened
6. The Broken Bones - Suspiria (2018)
Luca Guadagnino's 2018 reimagining of Argento's 1977 technicolour splatter fest is a remarkable film and when Guadagnino turns up the heat, Suspiria 2018 takes ZERO prisoners.
Susie Bannion has enrolled at a prodigious Berlin dance academy, though she is unaware the school is in fact run by a coven of practising witches. A student, Olga, has come to suspect the truth and flat out accuses the matriarch Madame Blanc (a deliciously sinister Tilda Swinton) of a conspiracy.
Olga attempts to flee but is hexed by Blanc, blinded and trapped in a mirrored rehearsal room. In an adjacent rehearsal space, Susie is put through the steps, unaware that her physical movements are being transferred to the helpless Olga, with horrific consequences.
Olga is thrown from one side to the next, bones cracking and dislocating, losing control of her bladder in the process. By the time Susie's hypnotic dance is over, Olga is a mangled mess, her limbs twisted and contorted over one another. A group of witches then remove the body with several large metal hooks, each one piercing her flesh as she is hoisted up and carried out.
This is as sick as horror gets: it's a brutal sequence, very hard to watch, yet cleverly taking place in the first third of the film, setting the stakes for Susie. The real kicker is that as Olga is dragged from the room, she is still alive, rasping and drooling like a dying animal.
