10 Shocking MCU Movie Plans That Almost Happened
2. The Amazing Spider-Man's Continuity Was Almost Rolled Into The MCU (Captain America: Civil War)
When the details were still being hammered out for Peter Parker's MCU debut, an early idea was to roll the continuity of Sony's Amazing Spider-Man movies into the MCU, with the possibility of Andrew Garfield reprising his role as the web-slinger.
Marvel Studios smartly opted against this, not only because of Garfield's age - he would've been 32 while shooting Civil War - but because being tethered to Sony's existing continuity would be a huge headache for more casual audiences, not to mention the difficulty in roping original cast members back (namely Sally Field's Aunt May).
Instead, Marvel Studios hit the reset button, cast an age-appropriate Spidey in Tom Holland, and a big portion of the fanbase considers him the best screen Spider-Man to date.
