10 Shocking MCU Movie Plans That Almost Happened

1. Wong Wasn't In Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange originally didn't feature cosmic librarian Wong (Bendict Wong) at all, and while on the surface this might not seem particularly important or shocking, it is when you dig down into the highly sensitive optics of the situation.

By this point, director Scott Derrickson had already cast Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, a predominantly Asian role which he was accused of whitewashing. This prompted him to try and fan the flames of ire a little by giving a prominent supporting part to an Asian actor, and significantly subverting the more questionable, dated elements of that character's origins,

In the comics, Wong was a stereotypical Asian man-servant, which he couldn't be further from in the final film, proving to be one of the easy highlights and a character with real agency in his own right.

Derrickson was boxed into a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation here, and he basically made the best of it. If Wong wasn't in the film, the toxic cloud of controversy and righteous anger could've forever tainted it.

What do you think of these scrapped MCU plans? Could they have worked, or did everyone dodge a few bullets? Shout it out in the comments!
