10 Shocking MCU Movie Plans That Almost Happened
9. Nick Fury Was Peter Parker's Mentor (Spider-Man: Homecoming)
When eventual director Jon Watts first pitched Spider-Man: Homecoming to Marvel Studios, he suggested that the role of Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) mentor would be filled by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), considering how absent he's been from the MCU in recent years.
This was eventually scrapped and Fury was replaced with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), which given his palpable chemistry with Parker in Captain America: Civil War just made a ton of sense.
It's hard to imagine the more stern Fury nailing the same paternal dynamic that made the superhero two-hander so much fun in Homecoming, especially as Tony Stark has a wealth of his own daddy issues to deal with.
They made the right call here, clearly.
