10 Shocking Movie & TV Posters That Went Too Far

1. The People Vs. Larry Flynt

As The People Vs. Larry Flynt was a biographical film chronicling the life of the titular pornographic magazine editor and his clashes with religious institutions and the law, it should come as no surprise (though it clearly did) that the filmmakers wanted the poster to be equally as shocking as the film's subject matter.

And shocking it was, as it portrayed an image of Woody Harrelson's Larry Flynt posed like Jesus on the cross - and if that wasn't offensive enough, he was posed in this way across a huge vagina and sported his own American flag-inspired underwear.

Even with the metaphors, there's no subtlety in this one, so it isn't surprising that it was quickly banned by the MPAA and replaced with a much less offensive one featuring Flynt's mouth sealed by the American flag.
