10 Shocking Remakes Made By Directors Who Didn't Understand The Original

8. Death at a Funeral (Neil LaBute)

Death at a Funeral The original Death at a Funeral was a low-budget, low-key British film that nevertheless delivered a combination of subtle, witty laughs, and wildly outrageous ones by way of some unexpected humour involving corpses, midgets and drugs. The Neil LaBute version - and this isn't the only time we'll be hearing from him - is a totally needless remake that takes the very British tone and style of the original and tries to hang it on an American cast with an American sense of humour. The result is, ostensibly, a total mess. Like so many American adaptations of British comedies (though this usually pertains to TV), it misses the point of the original and can't come up with something to fill the gaps. The result is awkward, depressing and lazy.
