The Expanded Universe backstory attributed to Chewbacca is particularly lovely. He led a revolt against the evil Empires regime, but was captured and tortured. This inspired Imperial Lieutenant Han Solo to save him and abandon the Empire. What happens to Chewie after the events of the films is far worse he is the only major character from the films to get definitively killed off. While rescuing the inhabitants of a doomed planet Sernpidal and saving Hans son in the process Chewbacca was killed. Sernpidal was due to be destroyed because its moon had fallen out of orbit. He was crushed to death while howling defiantly. Han was forced to flee. He blamed his son Anakin, and mourned the loss of his best friend for some time. While we really dont want this one to happen in The Force Awakens, theres no real narrative reason why the original Star Wars cast would be exempt from danger in the new movie. Of all the returnees, Peter Mayhews Chewie could be seen as the most disposable character. We pray that J.J. Abrams wont be that mean, but its worth remembering that he is the guy who destroyed Vulcan... What crazy EU moments did we miss? Will any of these appear in The Force Awakens?
