7. Nobody Dials Cypher In So He Can Meet The Agents - The Matrix (1999)
In the Wachowski's game-changing sci-fi actioner, the characters make it very clear that you can only enter and exit the Matrix if there's an operator there to dial you in and out, and that's after finding a suitable hardline from which to make your exit. Yet somehow, Joe Pantoliano's Cypher manages to arrange a meeting inside the Matrix with the nefarious Agents in order to betray Morpheus, even though he's the only member of the crew that is awake and couldn't possibly jack in and out of the Matrix with such ease on his lonesome. Even if the writer/director's have seemingly forgotten the rules of their own universe when creating this scene, a theory amongst Matrix fans have devised an explanation to cover this fairly gaping plot hole. This theory posits that Morpheus initially thought Cypher was the One, which is why he was removed from the Matrix despite the movie explaining that older people don't tend to be unplugged, and also helps explain his genius credentials and ability to see the code just by looking at it. Perhaps the Wachowskis intended this all along, or maybe its was just an oversight on the siblings' part.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
