Rape Revenge movies are deeply unpleasant experiences and not for the faint of heart. Tackling awful situations and themes that are horrific enough in real life, you could argue we don't need to see subject matter committed to film, even if they end with the bad guys getting their comeuppance. Thankfully, some movies revolving around this subject are significantly better than the exploitative dregs that birthed the subgenre. Case in point: Revenge.

With a harsh juxtaposition between a glossy and stylised aesthetic of the movie and the brutality it depicts, Revenge is of a much better standard than the movies of its kind that came before. As a mistress finds herself isolated in a luxury home in the middle of nowhere, she is forced to fend for herself when her lover and his friends turn on her.

With great direction from Coralie Fargeat and a superb performance from Matilda Lutz, Revenge is a film for the fans out there who revel in seeing bad guys get bad things done to them.
