Nothing is as it seems in this slow-burn horror, where a same-sex couple discover they have some rather unusual neighbours. Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman brilliantly leads this horror mystery as Malik, a writer struggling to confront his past whilst trying to understand just what the hell is going on with his neighbours.

As he digs deeper into the shady mystery that seems to engulf the new town he calls home, he begins to neglect his commitments as a partner and stepfather, alienating himself from everyone around him. Vulnerable and isolated, Malik becomes obsessed with finding the truth in order to make everybody around him believe, but it may just be his downfall.

Much like Blood Quantum, you have to love the inclusivity and narrative the film choses to follow. Giving gay characters a voice and story to lead, and not just be the best friend cannon fodder they're so often relegated to. Spiral is a creeping horror mystery that makes a perfect midnight snack.

Avid writer of nonsense. Can often be seen in his natural habitat watching far too many films and not enough TV. Occasionally plays on the Xbox and Megadrive whilst chastising himself for not writing more.
