Aquaman will likely be a hard sell to general audiences. After all, the concept of a hero that lives underwater and talks to fish is a bit harder to swallow than the idea of a billionaire using his vast fortune to fight crime.

Thankfully, the DCEU has made the wise choice of putting the franchise in the very capable hands of director James Wan. Lately, Wan seems to have a Midas touch at the box office, which will no doubt increase Aquaman’s box office potential exponentially.

Wan became an A-list director after helming the massively successful seventh entry in The Fast and The Furious franchise, a film that made a staggering 1.5 billion dollars at the worldwide box office.

Before that, Wan made his name by crafting low budget horror movies that were exceptionally profitable. Wan's financial acumen is unquestionable at this point and he seems to know how to stretch every dollar without making his films look cheap.

If Wan can use his ability to spin gold box office gold while keeping his production budget’s low, Aquaman could very well become the most profitable franchise in the DCEU and help DC's movie universe overtake Marvel at the box office.
