Ever since the Emperor’s ominous laughter could heard echoing through the trailer, fans far and wide have been digging furiously through the vast pages of the Star Wars lore, hoping to find a clue regarding what's to come.

Most of these searches end on the story of Darth Plagueis, the Sith Lord who was believed to have defeated death itself. What follows is now a commonly held belief among the fan community; Plagueis managed to attach his spirit to a new tether in the physical world and whoever has the post of angel of death in the Star Wars universe, was left short changed.

It gets more interesting from there on because some suggest Palpatine himself is in fact Darth Plagueis, or the vessel of his continued existence at least.

The entire theory sounds credible, and familiar, because we have seen it somewhere before.

Lord Voldemort’s obsession with obtaining eternal life was the driving force behind the events of the Harry Potter books and movies. What’s more, his means of achieving said goal were also similar to the ones supposedly employed by Palaguieis. The only difference being instead of objects as horcruxes, the Sith Lord simply rents the bodies of other individuals, permanently.
