10 Signs Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Is Ripping Off Harry Potter

7. The Chosen One

Admittedly it’s not quite fair to say this is a rip off, given the chosen one is arguably the most commonly used trope in all of sci-fi and fantasy. Nonetheless, the similarity is all too apparent.

Rey is a person whose very birth is shrouded in mystery and somehow she holds a connection to the great struggle between good and evil. The template is nearly identical to that of the wizard with the lightning scar.

And it’s not the just the premise of their characters but their stories too which follow similar paths. A poor orphan encountering a person who makes her a part of something far bigger, discovering she is inextricably linked to the battle of good versus evil, and finally embracing her destiny of being the one to end it all - Rey may be facing all these things now, but Harry did it before her.
