10 Silver Linings To Godawful Comic Book Movies

8. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) - Mr Jackman

FoxFoxFox must have had high hopes for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, using a prefix that implied more solo X-Men films would follow, but unfortunately for the studio, this was never meant to be. The movie was a financial success, but poor scripting and the shoddy treatment of fan favorites like Deadpool and Gambit ensured that reviews were almost universally unfavorable, causing Fox to abandon the idea of producing more solo outings for other members of the team. Fortunately for the fans, Hugh Jackman himself was disappointed with the movie too, so the actor went to great lengths to improve the studios next attempt at a solo Wolverine movie. It's unusual for a performer to become so heavily involved in a films production, but then it is also unusual for one actor to play the same role for seven movies and counting... Jackman's dedication to the character of Wolverine is impressive and it's become impossible to imagine any other actor in the role. Even when given a poor script by writers David Benioff and Skip Woods, Jackman elevates the material with his charismatic portrayal of the tortured hero who is destined to outlive everyone he loves. X-Men Origins: Wolverine may be the worst chapter of the X-Men franchise, but Jackman still keeps things watchable and that is an impressive feat indeed. God only knows what will happen to the series when Jackman inevitably becomes too old and is replaced...
