10 Silver Linings To Godawful Comic Book Movies

9. Daredevil (2003) - Blind Vision

Marvel PicturesMarvel PicturesJoin me as we turn from one terrible Mark Stephen Johnson superhero movie to another...Fox's adaptation of Daredevil was derided by fans for its dull script and poor casting choices (hello Ben Affleck!), but one key aspect the movie succeeded in translating successfully was Matthew Murdock's radar sense. In the comics, blind superhero Daredevil possesses an ability similar to echolocation which allows him to interpret elements of the world through vibrations. On page, this basically amounted to drawings of lines emanating out of Daredevil's head, but in Johnson's adaptation, fans were finally able to see this integral aspect of the character come to life. The excellent special effects provided an insight into Murdock's point of view and how his radar sense could be affected by things as simple as loud noises. While, some of the fight scenes were confusingly edited and poorly shot, the visual depiction of Daredevil's ability on screen effectively enhanced every action sequence, making them stand out from more typical superhero confrontations. The pulsating vibrations helped give Daredevil a unique aesthetic, but the less said about the moment when Murdock 'sees' Elektra in the rain the better. Romance is always tricky to handle in superhero movies without descending into schlock and unfortunately, the love scene depicted in the picture above is no exception.
