10 Silver Linings To Godawful Films

10. Opening Credits - X-Men Origins: Wolverine

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is widely accepted as the most disappointing movie in the X-Men franchise to date, a sloppy mess clearly assembled by people without much regard for the source material. However, one scene that received a considerable amount of praise was the opening credits sequence, which begins as a young Wolverine and his half-brother Victor Creed (aka Sabretooth) flee into the woods. This feeds directly into a sequence which shows the pair's exploits over time, as they fight together in the American Civil War, WWI, WWII, and the Vietnam War. It's a fantastic way to remind us how long the pair have actually been in existence, and using the wars as a framing device only further massages it into a real-world scenario. The images draw heavily on archetypal images of each war, resulting in easily the most iconic and memorable sequence of the entire movie. In fact, it's a shame more of the movie wasn't devoted to this, as it was far more compelling than any of what followed. Two mutant brothers taking on hordes of Nazis: what's not to like? Sadly, it's all downhill from this sequence, what with the movie's lazy plotting and ridiculous butchering of the Deadpool character. It's best to think of the opening sequence as a short film, and just turn the movie off when it's finished.
