10 Simple Fixes That Would Have Made The Hobbit Awesome

9. Wrap Up Bard's Story

Bard is a pretty important figure in terms of the story of The Hobbit, slaying Smaug, leading the humans the Battle of the Five Armies and eventually rebuilding (and taking the throne of) the new Kingdom of Dale. Given this it was surprising that his last appearance in the concluding chapter was a bit of fluff where Alfrid Lickspittle in drag runs away from the battle with a bosom full of gold while Bard reaffirms that his priority are his kids. All well and good as a nice comparison between the two, but massively unsatisfactory for Bard's story arc. Taking into account everything that he achieves throughout the film, saving the whole of Laketown and ensuring their continued survival, he really isn't given the credit he deserves. It was a real shame that Bard had so many scenes opposite Alfrid. The two will likely be banded together when remembering the film - a huge let down considering how good a performance Luke Evans turned in.
