10 Simple Fixes That Would Have Saved The Star Wars Prequels

9. Keep Darth Maul Alive

If you trawl through any article on the internet along the lines of how the Star Wars prequel should have turned differently, you can guarantee not killing off Darth Maul will be in there somewhere. Frankly he was the most intriguing character in The Phantom Menace and his three-way lightsaber battle was one of the most exciting moments of the entire prequel trilogy. He would have made a great recurring villain and given Obi-Wan Kenobi greater depth too, giving him an arc over the whole trilogy. Narratively speaking, Maul's death could have fit the same role as General Grievous; an act that would end the Clone Wars and bring his story full circle. If you consider the two fights between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in the original trilogy, the second had a massive emotion depth that no battle in the prequel trilogy - not even the lava-fuelled duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan - could match. A second round round between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul would have given something akin to that. Sadly this would-be iconic villain died too soon.
