10 Slasher Movies That Never Got A Sequel (But Should Have)

1. Maniac

In the opening scene of Maniac, a young, happy couple relaxes on the beach when suddenly a killer approaches, slits the woman's throat and strangles the man to death with a wire. That's all within the first two minutes. What a way to start a movie.

William Lustig's 1980 film only proceeds to get crazier from there. What's cool about Maniac is that unlike all the other slashers of the time, the killer is the main character. The movie follows Frank Zito, an insane man who murders people, scalps them with a razor and nails the scalps onto his collection of mannequins. Oh, and he also dresses the mannequins in his victims' clothes. He's got some problems.

Frank is such a disturbing character because there's something incredibly realistic about him. He's not a supernatural entity who haunts your dreams or a zombie who drowned in a lake as a kid; he's just a psychopathic man who lives among the people. It's legitimately hard to watch as he dates a woman, Anna, who has no idea how dangerous he is.

He's a fascinating character, though, and the ending clearly sets up a sequel when his eyes inexplicably open after being killed. Would he be brought back as a more supernatural killer this time? Is he just really hard to kill? Sadly, we'll never know.
