Pan's Labyrinth was released in 2006 to massive critical acclaim and global success.

Written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, the movie takes place in Spain in 1944, with dark fantasy elements as well as a story regarding guerillas fighting against the Francoist regime.

Naturally, the movie is in Spanish, which isn't necessarily conducive to a successful Hollywood blockbuster.

Part of Pan's Labyrinth's brilliance is in the performances delivered by its actors, and seeing their voices replaced or even their roles recast would have been an absolute travesty, and would only have served to undermine the movie's originality and emotional depth.

Pan's Labyrinth maintained its integrity and remained true to itself, and it's all the more incredible for it.
