10 Smartest Decisions In Sci-Fi Movie History

Using the 'ol noggin when it matters most.

If Ridley Scott's Prometheus and Alien: Covenant have proven anything, it's that otherwise promising films can be derailed by idiotic character decisions (and some of that plotting sure didn't help, either).

But above all other genres, sci-fi typically presents viewers with characters who are supposed to be intelligent and resourceful, and so it's especially jarring when the audience has their own intelligence insulted by watching scientists and astronauts do head-smackingly stupid things.

Refreshing it is, then, when a sci-fi film goes above and beyond by showing characters really using their noggin and doing something uncommonly smart that the average person - and certainly the average movie character - likely wouldn't ever think of.

It's immensely satisfying to see characters written to take the most plausible and life-preserving path possible, rather than risking life and limb like they don't really care about their own existence.

Each of these 10 smart decisions gave audiences an "aha!" moment of recognition, pleasantly surprised at a focal character doing the absolute best thing they could in their situation...
