10 Smartest Horror Movie Decisions (That Still Got People Killed)

9. Crawling Into The Backseat - The Call

10 Cloverfield Lane
TriStar Pictures

Emergency services operators have some of the hardest jobs in the world, as Halle Berry's Jordan in The Call soon proves. In charge of answering phone calls born from real life or death situations, Jordan's previous experience in the role accidentally resulted in the death of her charge - so she desperately wants to right the wrongs of her past when a kidnapped girl is on the line.

Casey, on the phone to Jordan, is trapped in the boot of a car that has pulled into a petrol station, where her kidnapper is quickly filling up his tank. As an attendant gets closer to the car, Casey figures out how to break through the backseat and catch his attention - thinking he can save her now someone finally knows where she is. Clever, surely?!

Only, Mr. Kidnapper here has a hand on the petrol nozzle. And as it turns out, he also has a lighter in his pocket. You can see where I'm going here. The poor gas attendant is burnt alive and Casey is no closer to being rescued, only managing to get a man killed for her efforts. Grim.
