10 Smartest Horror Movie Decisions (That Still Got People Killed)

6. Making A Hazmat Suit - 10 Cloverfield Lane

Waking up in a strangers basement is never a good sign, and is especially worse when your last memory is of a car crash and you're now chained up. Michelle finds herself in one such situation in 10 Cloverfield Lane, learning that she's been taken to a bunker by Howard to shack up with him and Emmett in the wake of a disastrous attack that has rendered the outside world a danger to be in.

Not quite trusting the man who supposedly rescued her, Michelle starts to take equipment to craft her own hazmat suit with the help of Emmett, which goes swimmingly until Howard notices their extracurricular activities. Creating the suit in itself is a great idea if Michelle has any hope of truly escaping safely, but the consequences of her actions come when Howard shoots Emmett and dissolves him in a vat of acid he has to hand. Then all hell breaks loose.

Upon destroying the bunker and killing Howard, Michelle makes it outside to discover that she didn't need the hazmat suit in the first place, as the air is perfectly breathable - there's just a bunch of hostile aliens out there instead. Well, that's much more reasonable then.
