10 Smartest Villain Plans From Sci-Fi Movies

7. Copycat Killing - Lamar Burgess (Minority Report)

Superman Lex Luthor Gene Hackman
DreamWorks Pictures

Based on a short story by Phillip K. Dick (aka, the Blade Runner guy), Minority Report is set in a world where criminals are arrested before they've even broken the law.

Through the use of clairvoyants, the Precrime programme determines that someone is going to commit a murder before they've actually done it. They can then be arrested and taken into custody without loss of life.

Unfortunately, the whole thing is controlled by a corrupt director who used Precrime to cover up a murder of his own.

Lamar Burgess, who is played by Max von Sydow so you know he's a rotter, killed the mother of one of his psychics after she tried to take her daughter back.

The way he did this was ingenious. He orchestrated an attack on the woman that was thwarted by his own Precrime team, and then had her murdered in the exact same fashion.

As the two visions were so similar, the team wrote the actual murder off as an "echo" of the attempted one.

If you feel like we've done a bad job explaining that, you try condensing a detailed sci-fi plot into 180 words.

See how you like it.
