10 Smartest Villain Plans From Sci-Fi Movies

4. Good Investment - Lex Luthor (Superman)

Look, Gene Hackman isn't the greatest Lex Luthor, we all know that. But at least we can all agree he did better than Jesse Eisenburg. Although, that's not sayng much.

In the first Superman film from 1978, Christopher Reeve's Man of Steel goes up against his archnemesis to stop him from blowing up the West Coast of the United States with nuclear missiles.

Anyone could just blow up a chunk of America. People try and do that all the time! Lex is instead on here for what he planned to do after the missiles hit.

Luthor used his considerable wealth to buy up large chunks of land in the desert. That way, when the original West Coast sank into the sea, his land would take its place.

Missiles + Land = Big bucks in land rights money.

It's simple maths, really.

So many supervillains' plots boil down to "blow this thing up and then maybe blow some other thing up." Luthor had foresight though. He had a plan for after the explosions died down.

In the end, Lex was just a greedy landlord - the most evil thing in the world.
