10 Snowbound Horror Movies For Christmas

8. Dreamcatcher

30 Days Night
Warner Bros.

Co-scripted by a two-time Oscar winner, directed by a four-time Oscar nominee and based on a novel by Stephen King, Dreamcatcher is the first $70 million movie about “sh*tweasels” from outer space who decide to invade Maine during a snowstorm.

If you’ve ever wanted to see Morgan Freeman yelling “I came here to kick some ass” while at the controls of a helicopter gunship, you’re in the right place. Among the other jolly sights are an alien snapping at Timothy Olyphant’s private parts while he writes his name in the snow and Jason Lee and Damien Lewis trying to decide if the man using their latrine is in fact dead. He is, which makes him the perfect audience for this movie.

On top of all this, there’s an odd approach to characterization. In the first two minutes, Thomas Jane’s character is shown to be suicidal, but oddly, it’s never so much as mentioned again. Was it intended as a throwaway gag? Or had he just read the script?
