10 Songs That Got More Popular Through Movies

3. I Will Always Love You - The Bodyguard

Ever since she started singing in the '80s, Whitney Houston always had one of the purest voices in the business. Beyond her typical R&B stylings, Houston's impressive vocal range and tasteful restraint made every song she sang feel like an emotional experience. She had already made a name for herself with "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," but turning this country song into a powerhouse ended up being her biggest hit ever.

Written by Dolly Parton, the original song was already used to soundtrack one of Parton's movies in the '70s, but Houston's version compared to the version are totally different. For Houston's film debut in the Bodyguard, this song went from just a mild mannered country love song to one of the rawest emotions ever to be committed to tape. The way that Houston is able to hold out the notes on the chorus is unlike anything any pop star has done before or since.

With years passed since the movie's release, the song has virtually taken on a life of its own, whether it be spawning memes across the Internet or being a go-to cover song for anyone who thinks they can take on Houston's chops. Some artists may be able to move you to tears through their writing, but all Houston needed was the power of her voice to make you feel something.
