10 Songs That Got Popular After Being Used In Movies

5. Something in the Way - Nirvana

Before Robert Pattinson's turn as the Batman this year, there was already a bit of public outcry towards the former Twilight star even taking on the role. For all of the fans that had grown up with Christian Bale's iconic turn as the character, seeing the more emo-tinged version of the Caped Crusader felt a little too juvenile coming off of the Nolan films. Both of these versions of Bruce Wayne know a thing or two about loneliness, and having Kurt Cobain as the soundtrack is almost too perfect.

Serving as a check in point at the beginning and end of the movie, the final track off of Nevermind is a much more somber affair than what Nirvana were used to, with just Kurt Cobain and a guitar talking about the kind of loneliness that never really goes away. While the original was making up a story about Kurt living under a bridge in his native Seattle, the backdrop of Gotham City is a welcome change of pace, with just as much rain and the same foreboding atmosphere.

Both times the song is played though, they seem to mean totally different things. The opening of Batman's lair in the beginning has Something in the Way setting the stage perfectly, especially when the bats disperse when Kurt sings the line about animals becoming his pets. By the time the city is flooded though, this is almost serving as a message of hope in a way, as Bruce looks at the Gotham that has been washed away. There are many things in the way of making Gotham a great city, but they are now on the road to rebuilding.
