1. Emma Watson - The Bling Ring
It became wholly apparent by the last Harry Potter movie that Emma Watson had gone, over the course of the series, from frizzy-haired child star to actually beautiful woman. Having played Hogwarts swat Hermione Granger for over a decade - a character who marks the epitome of "good girl" roles, perhaps - fans of Watson were left wondering what she'd sign on for next. Would she continue to take roles in a similar vein to Hermione, or opt for something completely different?
The Bling Ring answered that question, of course, in ways we probably weren't expecting: Emma Watson's role in said movie proved itself to be completely unlike anything she'd ever done before, and showcased the actress in, uh, a more promiscuous light then we were used to. The internet went somewhat crazy when the first trailer for Sofia Coppola's movie (about teenagers who rob famous people's houses) went online, as it included a brief shot of Watson jumping about on the dance floor with her tongue poking out in a seductive manner. Safe to say, we weren't looking at Hermione Granger. As Nikki, a self-obsessed teenager, Watson adopted an American accent, skimpy wardrobe (lots of jean shorts) and hair extensions. There's even a scene where she pole-dances, people! Still, the role was well-received and actually worked in Watson's favour: now we can look at her as something else besides a nerdy witch. I'm not going to say which one I prefer, but...
