10. Elizabeth Berkley - Showgirls
I'm not sure the world has yet recovered from the shock of seeing nerdy feminist Jesse Spano from
Saved By The Bell as the lead in Paul Verhoven's sleazy, apparently satirical exploitation flick about an erotic dancer who will stop at nothing to, like, dance around naked and take her clothes off and have bizarre, gratuitous sex at every conceivable moment.
Showgirls is an oddity, that's for sure, but - at the time - the casting of Berkley seemed utterly wild. The fact that she spends near enough the entire movie completely naked, too, is beyond shocking. Because most of us were familiar with Berkley from her TV work (let's face it, that's
all we knew her from), the jump that she made here proved far too extreme - so much so, in fact, that it rendered her career flat in the aftermath of the movie's release. We'd - so to speak - seen it all. It's almost as if the actress was desperate to expose herself, though, for no other reason than to expose herself. She looks great, of course, and this movie is now standard issue for confused teenager boys. Still, it's weird to see "Jessie" doing what she does in
Showgirls.
