10 Star Trek Legends Who Starred In Horror Movies
3. LeVar Burton - Rise Of The Zombies (2012)
LeVar Burton earned his title as a Star Trek legend due to his part as Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and because of his work behind the camera across multiple series of the franchise. Between The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise, Burton directed a total of 29 episodes. Ten years after playing La Forge for the last time in Nemesis, Burton landed a role in the 2012 undead tale, Rise of the Zombies
This film comes from the infamous movie studio The Asylum. The Asylum has a reputation for releasing “Mockbusters”, movies that share similar names and plots with upcoming films from the larger studios. A couple of examples being Alien vs Hunter and Transmorphers.
A group of survivors fleeing the zombie infested city of San Francisco take refuge in the Alcatraz prison. Among the survivors is Dr Halpern (Burton), who is frustrated with the lack of a “live” specimen. The undead eventually make it to the famous prison island, meaning the group must vacate and go on the run. It is unlikely you have ever seen LeVar Burton in anything as gory as this.
Rise of the Zombies also stars Mariel Hemingway (Superman IV: The Quest for Peace) and Danny Trejo. You know exactly what to expect from this one, coming from the director of Species: The Awakening, Z Nation and Zombie Apocalypse, Nick Lyon.
