10 Star Wars Anthology Movies That Need To Happen

4. Order 66

The Prequels might have been packed with weird tonal shifts and some truly atrocious writing, but one moment that did resonate with a lot of viewers was the Emperor’s ‘Order 66’, an initiative that saw countless Jedi murdered by the Clone troopers they had counted as their allies. It was a genuinely affecting moment, and one of the most upsetting things to happen within any Star Wars movie, but it still feels as though there are stories left to tell, with regard to the aftermath of Order 66.

The Clone Wars series, Battlefront II and the Republic Commando novels offered us a glimpse into the minds of the troopers who were present during the event, regular soldiers who were essentially pre-programmed to commit an atrocity they didn’t necessarily agree with or want any part in. Some men went rogue, and others struggled to cope with the guilt of offing their former comrades in arms.

This is fantastic fodder for a big-screen adaptation, a way to bridge the gap between the Republic’s clone army and the Empire’s conscripted Stormtroopers. We could witness the emotional, physical and psychological fall of the clones that lead to their inevitable replacement, perhaps over the course of several years, beginning with the execution of Order 66 itself.

The Force Awakens already touched upon the theme of PTSD, when Finn refused to gun down a village of unarmed people, but a movie that follows the lead-up and fallout of Order 66 could explore the theme even further.
