10 Star Wars Moments Actors Didn't Know Were Coming
9. David Prowse Didn't Know He Was Going To Be Replaced - A New Hope
Almost half a century after the release of Star Wars: A New Hope, Darth Vader is still considered one of, if not the, greatest cinematic villains of all time. From the costume to the intimidating voice, everything about this guy screams pure villainy.
Of course, Vader would be nothing without the instantly-recognisable pipes of James Earl Jones. The actor never played the role physically though - that was the job of David Prowse, a bodybuilder from the west of England who spoke the character's dialogue on set while filming.
James Earl Jones recorded his lines afterwards, which was one of the key reasons why nobody knew about Empire's famous twist. Unfortunately though, no-one told poor David Prowse that it wouldn't be his own voice he heard when he actually watched the movie.
It wasn't until sitting down to watch the finished cut that Prowse heard James Earl Jones' tones coming from beneath the now-iconic helmet, rather than his own.
There's likely not a Star Wars fan out there who would want to replace Darth Vader's voice with anyone, let alone with a West Country accent that didn't fit the bill, but it does seem incredibly harsh for the actor to find out this way without being told first.
