10 Star Wars Retcons So Dumb That It Actually Hurt
3. Obi-Wan Hides Luke In The Most Obvious Place Possible
In the Return of the Jedi novelization and script, Obi-Wan's Force ghost reveals to Luke that his uncle Owen was actually Obi-Wan's brother. This bit of dialogue never made it into the finished film, and it's just as well because in Attack of the Clones it was revealed that Owen Lars was indeed the step-brother of Anakin Skywalker, so he was legitimately Luke's uncle and had no relationship to Obi-Wan. However, this means that Obi-Wan's plan to hide Luke from Darth Vader meant bringing Luke to the planet where Vader grew up and placing him in the care of Vader's step-brother. Though Luke retains the telltale last name Skywalker, Obi-Wan adopts the first name "Ben" but keeps his famous last name. Regardless of his useless name change, he still walks around in his Jedi robes all the time. While Vader didn't know his son survived, if he ever did get curious about what became of his step-family or just visited Tatooine he wouldve made a startling discovery. Before the Prequel Trilogy, Owen being Obi-Wans brother made sense because it appeared that Obi-Wan had taken Luke to this remote desert planet to grow up in the care of someone Vader did not know. But the Prequel Trilogy established Anakin's childhood ties with Tatooine and even the farm where Luke is hiding. Either the Rebel Alliance has the worst Witness Protection Program in any known galaxy, or Yoda was the only one smart enough to hide on a remote swamp planet.
