10 Star Wars Scenes That Deserved To Be Longer

5. Rey's Parents - Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise Of Skywalker

There was a time when the question of Rey's parentage was up there as one of the biggest mysteries in Star Wars. After Episode VII, this was on everyone's minds as much as the true identity and backstory of Supreme Leader Snoke, both of which were questions seemingly tossed aside by Rian Johnson.

In spite of the teases that Rey's parents were someone important, The Last Jedi confirmed through Kylo Ren that they were just nobodies on Jakku who abandoned their child. J.J. Abrams however then wrote into Star Wars canon that Rey was actually the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine.

This narrative thread felt more patched together than anything else across the trilogy, despite it being arguably one of the most important in crafting Rey as a character. This was something that deserved to be fully planned out and portrayed on screen from the beginning, rather than it being written on the fly as the movies went along.

What makes this even worse is that the incredibly talented Jodie Comer was cast as Rey's mother to be on screen for a matter of seconds with no more than three lines of dialogue to speak. This honestly feels like more of a waste than Benicio del Toro as DJ, and the whole thing deserved more.
