10 Star Wars Spin-Offs Gareth Edwards Needs To Direct

10. Grand Admiral Thrawn

It is pretty much confirmed that no elements of the expanded universe, begun with Timothy Zahn's Heir To The Empire trilogy, will carry through into Star Wars Episode VII. That's actually a good thing. As amazing as that trilogy would be, having the complete story written already would leave little room for surprise. Not to mention later elements in the expanded universe like the Yuuzhan Vong would be a rather radical departure to what Star Wars audiences are used to. However Grand Admiral Thrawn, introduced in that trilogy, was a fantastic villain so perhaps there is still a way to use him? What was his role in the mighty Galactic Empire between the events of Revenge Of The Sith and Return Of The Jedi? Ruthless and ingenious, he succeeded despite the fact that he wasn't human like the rest of his comrades. In the novels he united the Imperial forces after the Emperor's death; perhaps the spin off film could pay homage to this character and give him the spotlight he deserves? Alternatively, Gareth Edwards could take elements of the novels to give Grand Admiral Thrawn a new story set after Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi. A film where he poses a threat to our heroes and the freedom of the galaxy? He would be a worthy follow up to Darth Vader and The Emperor.
