10 Star Wars Spin-Offs Gareth Edwards Needs To Direct

6. Obi Wan Kenobi

Talking of the wilderness years between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, what was Obi-Wan Kenobi up to? Did he spend twenty years mooting around his house on Tatooine? We're sure that the Empire's mission to hunt down and eradicate the Jedi didn't end with Order 66. Did he encounter Imperial agents? Was he forced to leave Tatooine for a time to ensure Luke wasn't discovered? Along with Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor was an actor who rose above not-so-great prequel scripts to deliver a solid performance. Unfortunately there is no story left to tell with Padme - we're certain no one wants to see through two hours of trade negotiations - but there is still twenty years in which to tell more stories about Obi-Wan. Perhaps the plot could cut between the present day and flash back to an earlier adventure pre-Clone Wars, expanding on his character further. Ewan McGregor delivered far more than an Alec Guinness impression with his take on Obi-Wan Kenobi. But he wasn't always given the best material to work with. The actor has expressed interest in playing the role again. A Kenobi-centric script would be the best opportunity for that.
