9. Laurence Fishburne – A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)

Laurence Fishburne wasn’t always the super cool Morpheus in the Matrix franchise. Although his big break technically came in 1979 with Apocalypse Now, when he was only 14, he still took the role of hospital orderly Max Daniels in the third Nightmare on Elm Street film in 1987 where he was credited as Larry Fishburne.

Set in a teenage psych institution, it was one of the better sequels in the series with some very inventive and gory special effects. Max is shown as a fair person, who does his job well but also cares about the teenagers. Sadly, his character is quite underused, as he disappears halfway through despite being introduced as a confidant to the main cast. Fishburne puts in a good performance, helping the ‘Dream Warriors’ to come together to defeat Freddy Kreuger. The film also features a young Patricia Arquette in her first feature film role.

Fishburne has starred in a couple of other horror films, including Event Horizon in 1997, and Predators in 2010. He also featured heavily in the television horror series Hannibal as Special Agent Jack Crawford. Jack had a particularly grisly end to Season 2 getting stabbed in the neck with a shard of glass by Hannibal Lecter (although he survived to carry on in Season 3).
