10 Stephen King Movie Adaptations That Stephen King Hated

7. A Return To Salem's Lot

A Return To Salem’s Lot is a sequel to the acclaimed 1979 miniseries, and boy is it weird. It finds an author and his family trapped in Salem’s Lot, and forced by the vampires to write their history. The film was written and directed by b-movie legend Larry Cohen, and he infuses it with lots of quirky touches.

It’s not scary in the least, though, and is quite dull for the most part. The film is pretty obscure now and while the cover proudly states it’s based on characters created by Stephen King, the author himself had nothing - and wanted nothing - to do with it.

During a Time interview he also lumped it in with the Children Of The Corn sequels as something he could do without.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
