10 Stephen King Stories That Deserve Film Adaptations
1. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is a fascinating psychological horror novel and another prime example of King taking a simple formula and crafting it into something special. The story follows a 9-year-old girl who gets lost in the woods during a family camping trip. All she has is a bit of food, a Walkman, a Game Boy, and a very vague understanding of survival.
As she attempts to stay alive and make her way to civilisation, the girl thinks a lot about her favourite baseball player, Tom Gordon, and gradually begins to fear that a terrifying wasp-faced creature is chasing after her. King remains deliberately vague about whether or not the girl is hallucinating or actually falling victim to supernatural events, culminating in a very exciting ending.
George Romero had actually planned to make a movie version for a little while, but nothing came of it in the end. With a talented young actress in the leading role, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon could be turned into a terrific film.
