10 Stephen King Stories That Deserve Film Adaptations

2. The Regulators

Eyes Of The Dragon
Dutton

As well as being a fascinating companion piece to one of King's other books, Desperation, The Regulators works perfectly as a standalone story. It takes place in a small suburban town with one very special resident: an autistic boy named Seth. With the help of a manipulative, malevolent entity known only as Tak, Seth develops supernatural powers, suddenly able to change the world around him at will.

His imagination, quite literally, begins to run wild and throws his entire town into chaos. Seth loves TV Westerns and science-fiction cartoons, and starts to bring his favourite characters and creatures to life, right there in his own neighbourhood. Meanwhile, the local population has to figure out what's going on, survive this dangerous new world, and try to put an end to the madness before it's too late.

There are so many exciting ways that this story could be adapted and portrayed on the big screen. With modern technology and special effects, it would be incredible to see a quiet old American town gradually transforming into this bizarre, life-or-death playground, and it could set the stage for a Desperation adaptation too, which tells a very similar story and features some of the same characters.
