10 Strangest Oscar Nominations Of The Past 15 Years

2. Mirror Mirror - Best Costume Design (2013)

mirrormirror600 My basis for this one might simply be the fact that Mirror Mirror might be the worst movie I€™ve ever seen. The plot is flat and stale and Julia Roberts is at her worst. In comparison to Snow White and the Huntsman, which was surprisingly good, Mirror Mirror is a shameful recreation of the Snow White story. So why even bother to mention it? Yes, technically the costumes are nice - if nice is defined by over the top, awkward caricature costumes. I mean that could have at least given a nod to Anna Karenina- oh that won eh? What about Les Mis! Oh, it got nominated too€ Even Lincoln? Yeah€ okay, well I can€™t argue with any of those choices which makes it even more heart wrenching when something like this gets nominated. If you wanted over the top colourful costumes why wasn€™t Hunger Games nominated? Now, I understand why they would want to nominate what€™s her name for an Oscar. She had previously done stunning work for the movie Dracula- which won her an Oscar. Unlike Mirror Mirror her costumes in Dracula are stunning but subtle. MM uses gaudy costumes to try and hide how terrible the acting is, and although I will admit some of the costumes are beautiful they somehow don€™t fit the tone of the movie.I realize I might be out of bounds on this one simply because I hate the movie... but something like The Hobbit could have easily taken the place of this crapshow. Oh. What? The costume designer was nominated posthumously€ well, now I just feel bad.
