Doctor Strange may be the MCU's Sorcerer Supreme and most powerful wizard alive today, however it wasn't always this way. The Ancient One was a master of the mystic arts long before Stephen Strange ever entered the scene, and protected the Earth from all manner of deadly threats.

She protected the Sanctum from Loki and the Chitauri with ease in a battle that almost saw the defeat of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, she had the power to see far into multiple dimensions and timelines, and had the mental strength to accept that if Strange gave the Time Stone to Thanos in the future then it was for the right reason.

Though drawing strength from Dormammu and the Dark Dimension was not exactly ethical, and is what ultimately set Mordo on the villainous path his future promises, it allowed her to become stronger, more durable, and to live longer than any sorcerer before her.
