Christopher Nolan is probably the most critically acclaimed director working today. His films routinely smash box office records without breaking a sweat. Seven of the nine films he has made so far are seemingly permanent fixtures in the IMDb Top 250. And, perhaps most crucially, he isn't really to blame for either Transcendence (directed by his regular DP) or Man Of Steel (which he nominally produced). You can spot a Nolan production a mile off, but in a good way: prestige cast, stunning camera work, innovative plotting and a whole bunch of smart ideas and unsolved questions that'll have you puzzling to make sense of it all on the drive home. He's earned his reputation through a filmography of entertaining, enrapturing and thought-provoking cinema. Oh and Batman, he did Batman too. Those are fun. As tends to happen when somebody achieves such great heights, however, there are people eager to cut him down. They call it tall poppy syndrome. Look it up. Being slavishly devoted to Nolan isn't ideal attacking him for no reason isn't either. Especially when those attack are mostly nonsense.
